Seeking Safety Program
DuPage County Psychological Services provides an 8-week Seeking Safety women's only group. Seeking Safety is an evidence-based present-focused counseling model that is used in group counseling to help survivors with co-occurring trauma and substance use disorders and does not ask them to delve into emotionally distressing trauma narratives.
Principles of Seeking Safety:
- Safety as the overarching goal helping clients attain safety in their relationships, thinking, behavior, and emotions
- Integrated treatment working on both trauma and substance use at the same time
- Focus on ideals to counteract the loss of ideals in both trauma and substance use
