Residents Urged to Join Citizens Service Team
We all realize that government at every level is dealing with budget pressures due to flat revenues and high costs. Even smaller public agencies are looking for new ways to save money while continuing to provide vital services.
Taking on this task will require fresh leadership and innovative ideas – this is where I hope you can help. We are forming a “Citizens Service Team” to invite folks like you to join our effort to reform local government and bring new ideas and new energy to the table.
As chairman, I’m responsible for appointing nearly 400 people to serve on dozens of independent boards throughout DuPage County. From large agencies like the Water Commission and Board of Health down to smaller entities like Mosquito Abatement Districts, each board oversees the use of public dollars and needed County services. Later this month, we will receive a financial assessment of each agency that will serve as a roadmap on how we can reduce costs, create more transparency and consolidate or eliminate local agencies.
In order to succeed at this new approach, we need a new team in place. Whether you are retired, a stay-at-home mom, business owner, student or just someone seeking a way to contribute to your community, please consider serving on this “team.”
Simply click on the Citizens Service Team portal here on the County’s website and submit your information. If you have a particular area of experience or education that would apply to a certain agency, please indicate your interest on the application. We will review your credentials and notify you when an opportunity arises for your consideration.
Reforming local government by making it more accountable and efficient is certainly a “team” effort. I’m hopeful you can join our effort by offering your time and talents to this worthwhile endeavor.
