The DuPage County Clerk's Office issues certified copies of DuPage County birth certificates, DuPage County death certificates, and DuPage County marriage certificates.

You may order copies of DuPage County vital records securely through VitalChek. Orders placed on VitalChek can also be processed on an expedited basis for an additional shipping fee.

  • Birth Certificates
    $14.00 for the first certified copy and $2.00 for each additional copy, when ordered at the same time.
  • Death Certificates
    $18.00 for the first certified copy and $6.00 for each additional copy, when ordered at the same time.
  • Marriage Certificates
    $14.00 for the first certified copy and $2.00 for each additional copy, when ordered at the same time.

NOTE: There is a $10.00 service fee to order certificates/records through VitalChek.  The fee is not charged nor collected by the DuPage County Clerk's office. Expedited shipping fees are collected through UPS.

Birth Certificates

Our office holds birth certificates of individuals born in DuPage County, Illinois. For birth certificates of individuals not born in DuPage County, please contact either the county of birth or the Illinois Department of Public Health Division of Vital Records at (217) 782-6553 or (312) 814-2793. Please note: By law, the County Clerk's Office CANNOT make corrections to a birth record. Please contact the Illinois Department of Public Health - Vital Records Department for corrections.

Copies of Birth Certificates:

Who May Obtain a Birth Certificate?

  • An individual if 18 years of age or older, born in DuPage County, can obtain a certified copy of their own birth certificate.
  • A parent (listed on the certificate) of the child whose certificate is being requested.
  • A legal guardian with certified court documentation proving verification of guardianship.
  • A legal representative, such as an attorney acting on behalf of the person named on the birth certificate (legal representatives must have valid, authorized documentation and provide ID).
  • An agent authorized by court ordered power of attorney. (Agent must present valid photo identification and provide certified court documentation.)

Under Illinois State Law (410 ILCS 535-Vital Records Act) only specific individuals have legal access to birth, death, or marriage certificates. The DuPage County Clerk's Office will issue certificates to authorized individuals only. To do otherwise is a violation of Illinois Law. Vital records are not considered public information and are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

All requests, whether they are made in person, by mail, or online, must be accompanied by the Current and Valid Identification* of the requestor, or the request will not be fulfilled. Please see below for a list of examples of current and valid identification.

The fee is $14 for the first copy and $2 for each additional copy of the same certificate, requested at the same time.

What About Genealogical Research?

Birth records had to occur 75 years ago or earlier to be classified as genealogy records. The application process is the same as above, however, the fee is $1 per record. Genealogical records are not certified, but stamped "For Genealogical Purposes Only."

Death Certificates

Copies of Death Certificates:

DuPage County can provide certified death records for deceased individuals if the death occurred in DuPage County.

Death records for deaths occurring anywhere in Illinois can be requested through the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records.

Who May Obtain a Death Certificate?

You can obtain a certified copy of a death certificate if you are a direct relative or an individual who can prove a financial interest. Examples include:

  • Immediate relatives of the deceased individual, including a spouse, parent, child, or sibling.
  • The informant listed on the death certificate.
  • The executor or administrator of the decedent’s estate; requesting individual must provide authorized documentation of their court ordered appointment as executor or administrator.
  • An individual who has a personal or property right interest in the certificate and can supply documentation demonstrating the need for the record from a requesting agency.
