John Oldenburg of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will discuss the recent restoration project done on the West Branch DuPage River, one of the Midwest's most extensive urban stream restorations. This extensive cleanup, a collaborative effort across many agencies, including DuPage County Stormwater and the Forest Preserve District, removed radioactive thorium and restored a section of the river to its more natural state. It was an extraordinarily complex project which included multi-agency cooperation and support. In the end, the DuPage River is "healing" from past disturbances and stands today as one of the great urban ecological restorations ever undertaken in our region. There is a fee to attend the luncheon event and presentation.  For more info, or to register, visit the Conservation Foundation website.
