POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction, performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, developing and coordinating the activities of a Micro Computer Support group in Information Technologies; performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This position provides centralized assistance and coordination for department users of microcomputers. This position determines technical requirements for the operation and maintenance of microcomputers and the installation and maintenance of software. This position reports to the Manager of Systems and Programming and supervises subordinate personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determines scope of departmental needs, problems and services required
• Plans and develops micro computer programs and systems
• Maintains existing programs
• Programs existing software and new software as it is developed
• Maintains applications written by outside vendors
• Provides software support to designated departments
• Recommends software maintenance backups on servers
• Provides hardware maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting
• Determines priorities for assigning personnel
• Trains subordinate personnel in problem solving, software installation and maintenance, hardware maintenance
• Maintains and replaces servers
• Researches and evaluates major order pricing and budgeting
• Recommends purchases
• Places and tracks approved orders
• Recommends hires and promotions, directs and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adjusts work assignment or schedule in the event of an emergency to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities as assigned.
• Depending on assignment, may require emergency management training, licensure or certifications.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification.

• Supervising and motivating subordinates
• Planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of others
• Using computer hardware and software including work processing, spreadsheets, databases,
email, etc.

assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or related area and three to five years of progressively responsible experience in micro computer programming and systems work, including one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
