The County provides seasonal and intern opportunities annually. Persons hired as seasonal workers or interns remain active for a period of one year (April 1-March 31) and are eligible to return during this period as needed. Persons interested in seasonal work or intern positions must complete an employment application in accordance with the department's projects.

Seasonal Employment Schedule

Spring Season: March 1-March 31

Summer Season: April 1- September 30

Winter Season: November 15-February 28

Unpaid Intern

Work is similar to training that would be provided in an educational environment.  Interns are not entitled to wages for the time spent in these unpaid internships and are not entitled to a job at the conclusion of them.

 9174 Seasonal Office Worker Performs clerical or office work. No minimum academic requirements.  $9.00/hour and .25/hour increase for returning workers Public Works
 9172 Seasonal Labor Worker Performs manual labor. No minimum academic requirements.  $10.00/hour and .25/hour increase for returning workers Public Works, Department of Transportation, Animal Care & Control, Facilities Management
 9170  Intern Assists the department they are assigned to with tasks related to their field of study and applies knowledge gained through college education. The majority of the responsibilities should be spend on para-professional or professional work. Requires the applicant to be actively taking undergraduate or graduate level courses at an accredited institution to obtain an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree, or be a recent graduate (within past year).

Undergraduate: $10.00/hour and .50/hour increase for returning interns

Graduate: $10.50/hour and .50/hour increase for returning interns 

Finance, Veterans Assistance Commission, Animal Care and Control, Information Technology: Geographic Information Systems
 9170 Intern - Public Works-Finance, Environmental Assists the department they are assigned to with tasks related to their field of study and applies knowledge gaining through college education. The majority of the responsibilities should be spent on Para-professional or professional work. Requires the applicant to be actively taking undergraduate or graduate level courses at an accredited institution to obtain an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree, or be a recent graduate (within past year).

$12.00/hour for interns completed freshman year

$12.50/hour for interns completed sophomore year

$13.00/hour for interns completed junior year

$14.00/hour for interns completed senior year

$1.00 increase for returning interns ($15.00/hour maximum)

Public Works

All new employees will require a pre-employment background check. Returning employees will complete waiver in regard to background. Some positions will require a valid Illinois Driver's License in good standing.
