Aurora Woman Sentenced to 18 Years for Permitting Sexual Abuse of a Minor
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that Judge George Bakalis has sentenced Christina Sykora, 40 (d.o.b. 3/27/1971) of Crestwood Court, Aurora to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for permitting her former boyfriend, Sabino Martinez, to sexually abuse a young female relative in her care. Sykora pled guilty this morning to one count of Permitting the Sexual Abuse of a Child, a Class 1 Felony, in front of Judge George Bakalis, who handed down today’s sentence.
The sentencing stems from allegations that on at least one occasion, Sykora offered the young victim to Martinez for sex in place of herself and watched while the abuse took place. On August 2, Martinez was sentenced to 18 years in the IDOC after pleading guilty to Predatory Criminal Sexual Abuse of a Child. He must also register as a sex offender for life. The abuse of the young girl took place from early 2003 through December, 2006.
“Cases involving child abuse are never easy,” Berlin said “This case however, is one of the most disturbing cases to come through my office in recent times. Words cannot describe the physical and emotional pain that this poor child endured caused by the complete betrayal of a trusted relative. My heart goes out to her. I would like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Anne Therieau and DuPage County Children’s Center Investigator Robert Simandlfor their work on behalf of this young victim in this very disturbing case.”
Sykora will be required to serve 50% of her prison sentence before being eligible for parole.
