Building Permitting, Zoning & Contractor Registration

As of March 1, 2008 all general contractors and sub-contractors doing work in unincorporated DuPage County are required to be

registered, bonded and insured through the Department of Economic Development and Planning.

As of September 1, 2008
The revised Building Code for residential and commercial building

As of April 1, 2006
ALL commercial permits submitted MUST meet ALL requirements for the
Illinois Energy Efficient Commercial Building Act

You can download the applications on line, but you must apply for permits in person. Mailed and faxed in applications will be returned unprocessed

STRUCTURE(S) MUST be drawn to scale on Plats of Survey submitted with the following scales:

one inch = ten feet (1" = 10')
one inch = twenty feet (1" = 20')
one inch = thirty feet (1" = 30')

Regulatory Services Schedule of Fees

Per revisions to the Regulatory Services Schedule of Fees adopted by the DuPage County Board effective Monday March 3, 2008:

A non-refundable application fee is now required to be paid at the time of submittal of a building permit application. This fee will then be credited towards your permit fees upon permit issuance.
A one hundred dollar ($100.00) re-inspection fee is now required to be paid for all failed inspections PRIOR to the scheduling of a re-inspection. This may be facilitated by phone with the use of a major credit card.

We accept credit, debit cards, cash, and checks for payment of fees and services.

Contractor Registration

Effective March 3, 2008 all General and Sub-Contractors performing work in Unincorporated DuPage County are required to be registered with the DuPage County Building Official prior to permit issuance and commencement of work. A note in regard to Surety Bonds:

When applying as a General Contractor/Construction Manager not employing full-time tradesmen the bond should state “General Contractor”.
When applying as a General Contractor with Trades using full-time tradesmen the bond should state “General Contractor with Trades”.
When applying as a Sub-Contractor the bond should state the specific trade(s).
