The mission of the Special Care Unit is to provide a safe, comfortable, structured environment for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders.
Recognizing the unique needs of these individuals, the DuPage Convalescent Center opened two secured units with specially designed treatment and activity programs. These units are located on the third floor of our center wing and on the fourth floor of our north wing, providing care to multiple residents. A private dining and activity area along with a lounge and sunroom are available to provide a complete and secure environment for these residents.
It is our goal to maximize each person’a ability to maintain his or her independence. We provide meaningful activities throughout the day and evening to give structure and provide a routine.
Our staff is specially trained to work with persons who suffer from Alzheimer’s and related disorders. We work with our residents to maintain their highest level of functioning, provide dignity and to create a plan of care that meets the needs of each individual.
We encourage family members to participate in the care of the resident. Families play a very important role in the lives of our residents and their involvement enhances quality of life and helps to maintain dignity for the resident.
Admission or placement on the Special Care Unit must meet the Center’s medical guidelines. For more information, please contact the Admissions Office at 630-784-4315.

Through the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Illinois Chapter, the DuPage Convalescent Center offers an Alzheimer’s Support Group that meets the second Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in one of our conference rooms. This group is facilitated by one of our social services caseworkers.
The group usually consists of approximately 10 people, and includes community members as well as family members of residents. Each meeting lasts about 2 hours and refreshments are served. These meetings offer a great place to learn about resources and ways to cope for those whose lives are affected by someone with Alzheimer's.
