AIRPORT PLANNING & O'HARE AIRPORT

DuPage County Economic Development and Planning Group will be responsible, from time to time, for performing studies related to airports and airport impacts.  The County is concerned with the health and well-being of its citizens as well as promoting the County's economic and commercial vitality and will use this space to present information considered of interest to the public. 

O'Hare Modernization Program

The County is currently in the process of reviewing the impacts of the O'Hare Airport Modernization Program and has entered into agreements related to work on the airport.  These agreements are included below.

DuPage County West O'Hare Corridor Economic Development Planning Study

In the fall of 2005, DuPage County and its team of consultants began a study to determine the economic, transportation and socio-economic impact of the O'Hare Modernization Program on the County and its communities.  The goal of the study is to determine what impacts and benefits might reasonably be seen as a reult of the expansion of the airport and the opening of a proposed West Terminal in the DuPage section of the airport.

The Study is projected to be complete in the third quarter of 2006.  It has three phases:

Stage I - State of the Area Analysis  (complete)

The state of the area analysis brings into focus the current transportation system, airport, development and community plans in the study area. Visioning session #1 brought the communities and various public agencies together in a public outreach forum and synthesized the issues facing the corridor.

Stage II - Impact and Opportunity Analysis (complete)

Impact and Opportunity Analysis takes the results of the State of the Area work, community interviews, stakeholder interviews and further comments from participants at the Visioning session #2 in April, 2006 and graphically represents possible development, transportation and transit implementation schemes.

Stage III - Corridor Visioning (complete)

Corridor visioning involves putting a more refined vision together of the West O'Hare development corridor, discussing the potential economic and transportation impacts of the various components of the O'Hare Modernization Program, and forming an implementation strategy involving municipalities, transportation stakeholders and others.
