ANNUAL TRAIL CLEAN-UP OF THE ILLINOIS PRAIRIE PATH & THE GREAT WESTERN TRAIL TO BE HELD ON APRIL 28TH

WHEATON ― On Saturday April 28th, come rain or shine, the Illinois Prairie Path and the Friends of the Great Western Trail will hold their annual Earth Day Trail Cleanup.  The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. – with start times to vary – at villages and trail sections throughout the area.

“There are 61 miles of trails in DuPage, Kane and Cook Counties watched over by The Illinois Prairie Path,” said Jeff Redick, Chairman of the County’s Environmental Committee.  “On April 28th, we are asking residents to roll up their sleeves and help pick up litter along these beautiful trails.”

The trails are cleaned year-round by volunteers and can be kept clean by trail users being mindful of their liter.  Residents are asked to remove all drink containers and snack wrappers they take with them on the trails, noted Redick.

Trail cleanup volunteer coordinators are also needed to take a section of the trail and help organize the cleanup. Those interested in serving as a coordinator are encouraged to call Ray Bartels at 630-424-8851 or via email at Rbartel399@comcast.net.

The Illinois Prairie Path not-for-profit corporation is supported by tax deductible memberships.  Memberships are available at different levels. New members are provided a free full-color detailed trail map that includes the IPP, GWT, the Fox River trail system and dozens of connecting trails/recreational amenities.
