COUNTY TO SPONSOR BIKE TO WORK WEEK

Environmental Committee Chair Jeff Redick Urges Participation

WHEATON County Board Member and Chair of the Environmental Committee, Jeff Redick (District-2) announced the County’s sponsorship of the Annual Bike to Work Week and urged participation from his fellow Board members and County residents.

This year’s annual Commuter Challenge will include five Commuter Stations throughout DuPage County at the following Metra stations:

From 6:30 am until 8:30 am, bike commuters will be greeted with a cup of coffee or bottled water, have their bikes tuned up by volunteers at each station, receive a County Prairie Path map and get a special tag for their bike.  Expanded bike racks will be available at all stations.

DuPage County is sponsoring this annual event along with SCARCE, Starbucks and the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation.

“By biking to work or to the Metra station, we can save gas money, help the environment and get a little fresh air and exercise in this beautiful weather,” Mr. Redick stated.

“The Environment Committee is promoting this event to encourage further awareness of how our individual actions effect the environment.  The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation will be tracking the miles biked during this week and calculating the decrease in pollution emissions.  I hope everyone will have the opportunity to take at least one day and ‘bike to work’ and begin to incorporate cycling into a healthy lifestyle,” Redick concluded.

Interested cyclists can visit the Bike to Work Week website, www.biketraffic.org/commute to learn tips for biking to work or call 630- 407-6883 for more information.
