DUPAGE COUNTY HOSTS ELECTRONICS RECYCLING & DOCUMENT SHREDDING EVENT

DU PAGE COUNTY-- DuPage County and the City of Elmhurst will cosponsor an Electronics Recycling and Document shredding event, which will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2009.  Residents are invited to recycle their unwanted electronics and paper documents at the Elmhurst Public Works Office between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

"This provides residents with an opportunity to safely and securely dispose of their personal and financial files in a manner that is environmentally friendly," said Environmental Committee Chairman Jeff Redick (District 2).  "It really is a benefit in many different ways.  I encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their identity and the environment."

The following items can be dropped off at no charge: computers, CPU's, monitors, keyboards, televisions, radios, microwaves, laptops, printers, cell phones, UPS systems, PDA's, fax machines, phones, DVD players, VCR's and stereo equipment.  No electronics or documents from businesses will be accepted, and any items containing liquid or refrigerants are prohibited.

This document shredding event utilizes state-of-the-art mobile shredding trucks, which are faster, more efficient, and have a high-volume destruction process.  100 percent of the paper is recycled.  Staples and paperclips need not be removed from documents, though binders, hard cover books, plastic coverings or cardboard cannot be shredded.  There is a limit of three boxes or three paper grocery bags.

The Elmhurst Public Works Office is located at 985 S. Riverside Dr.  For more information, call the DuPage County Department of Economic Development and Planning at (630) 407-6700 or visit the website: www.dupageco.org/recycle/.
