SHEAHAN: PROJECT WILL IMPROVE COMFORT LEVEL AT MAYSLAKE MANOR
DU PAGE COUNTY -- DuPage County, through its Weatherization Program, is pleased to improve the comfort of the seniors living at Mayslake Manor, which is part of Mayslake Village, a non-for-profit corporation that provides affordable independent living opportunities for low and moderate income Senior Citizens.
The $400,000 project was funded by the State of Illinois, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and Commonwealth Edison.
"With this funding we were able to provide the residents of 149 units with new energy efficient baseboard heaters and thermostats, sliding glass doors, windows, and light bulbs," said DuPage County Board Member Brien Sheahan (District 2). "These improvements should produce an energy savings of over 20 percent. We were also able to provide new fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in every unit."
Sheahan also notes that the County has been able to work with two local contractors, Intelligent Energy Solutions and K & J Heating and Cooling.
"With our local economy struggling, the ability to put local contractors to work is one of the greatest benefits of the Weatherization Program," said Sheahan.
The County's goal is to weatherize 1,000 homes in DuPage County this year, which will lower the energy bills and increase the comfort and safety of many lower and middle income residents who qualify.
