DUPAGE COUNTY RENEWS COMMITMENT TO RECYCLING PROGRAMS

DU PAGE COUNTY -- DuPage County and the City of Elmhurst are reminding residents about the Electronics Recycling and Document shredding event taking place October 24th, 2009.  Unwanted electronics and paper documents will be recycled at the Elmhurst Public Works Office between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Recently, DuPage County reaffirmed its commitment to recycling programs throughout the area by renewing the agreement with SIMS Recycling Solutions, the company which collects and recycles unwanted residential electronics at no cost.  As of September 25th, 2009, the program has successfully recycled 1,373,535 pounds of electronics. The agreement reestablishes DuPage County as the liaison with municipalities to set up collection sites or one-day events for a one-year period expiring November 30, 2010.

Electronics items which can be dropped off at no charge include: computers, CPU's, monitors, keyboards, televisions, radios, microwaves, laptops, printers, cell phones, UPS systems, PDA's, fax machines, phones, DVD players, VCR's and stereo equipment.  No electronics or documents from businesses will be accepted, and any items containing liquid or refrigerants are prohibited.

This event utilizes state-of-the-art mobile shredding trucks, which are faster, more efficient, and have a high-volume destruction process.  100% of the paper is recycled.  Staples and paperclips need not be removed from documents, though binders, hard cover books, plastic coverings or cardboard cannot be shredded.  Limit of 3 boxes or 3 paper grocery bags.

The Elmhurst Public Works Office is located at 985 S. Riverside Dr.  For more information, call the DuPage County Department of Economic Development and Planning at (630) 407-6700 or visit the website: www.dupageco.org/recycle/
