TRAVEL ALERT:  MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT RUSH HOUR DELAYS

WHEATON – The DuPage County Division of Transportation is warning motorists to be extra careful driving today as a combination of sub-zero temperatures and accumulating snow are blanketing the area.

DuPage County salt trucks have been out since 6:00 AM this morning, even though the snow did not begin until 9:00 AM.  However, due to the extremely cold weather and cloudy skies, de-icing chemicals do not work on the roads as quickly.  Therefore, snow clearing operations will take longer, which in turn will affect the commute home this afternoon, as well as the morning rush hour. 

Motorists are encouraged to leave enough time to get to their destination, or to use public transportation.
