SHEAHAN COMMENDS
WHEATON — Brien Sheahan, Chairman of the County’s Legislative Committee, commended Illinois lawmakers on Wednesday for sending a measure to the Governor that would enact a statewide smoking ban. The measure, which was already approved by the Illinois Senate, passed the Illinois House by a vote of 73-42 on Tuesday. “This measure will bring a uniform, statewide, approach to reducing the dangers of second hand smoke in eating establishments throughout Two weeks ago, the Legislative Committee approved a resolution supporting Senate Bill 500, which would prohibit smoking in all public buildings and in most businesses and government vehicles. Smoking would be illegal in bars and restaurants, as well as places ranging from student dormitories to private homes in which businesses open to the public are operated. Senate Bill 500, if signed by the Governor, would take effect January 1, 2008. # # #
