For Immediate Release SUBCOMMITTEES TO EXPLORE REVENUE OPTIONS AND COST EFFICIENCY WHEATON— In their continuing effort to address the budgetary issues currently facing DuPage County, the Finance Committee appointed two new subcommittees that will examine revenue options, as well as ways to streamline County costs. Patrick O’Shea, Chairman of the County’s Finance Committee, announced during Tuesday’s meeting that he was creating two new subcommittees, one that will examine revenue options available to the County and the other will review efficiencies the County can undertake to alleviate some of the financial strains currently being felt by all departments and agencies. The first is the Revenue Sub-Committee. Using the work of the Financial Forecast Committee as a foundation, they will be looking at potential new revenue sources and revenue enhancements. “The sources this subcommittee will explore include current legislative options, a public safety tax referendum, increasing fees across the board, and the review of other sources that are within our power,” said O’Shea. “As was clear from the First Quarter Financial Report, natural revenue growth in the County will not be sufficient to meet our needs and our solutions to future budgets must be revenue based.” Appointed to the Revenue Subcommittee are Don Puchalski (Chairman), Pam Rion, Linda Kurzawa, Yolanda Campuzano, Grant Eckhoff and Kyle Gilgis. The second sub-committee of Finance will be the Cost Efficiency Committee. Though the County sustained considerable cuts in the last few years, O’Shea noted that “we must look for opportunities to contain costs and leverage our resources.” “This committee will undertake a comprehensive review of facility usage, employee benefits, opportunities for public private partnerships, resource sharing, asset evaluation, utility audits and government consolidation,” said O’Shea. Serving on the Government Efficiency Subcommittee are Debra Olson (Chairman), Brien Sheahan, Robert Schroeder, Tom Bennington and James Healy. All County Board members serving on these two new Subcommittees are also members of the County’s Finance Committee, which meets twice a month to discuss and review the financial issues that come before the County.
