For Immediate Release COUNTY BOARD ADOPTS STRATEGIC PLAN PLAN WILL HELP ADDRESS LONG-TERM DIRECTION OF COUNTY ISSUES WHEATON ― The DuPage County Board approved a draft Strategic Plan Tuesday evening that examines the key issues facing DuPage County and what tools are necessary in order to ensure the County continues to provide innovative, cost-effective, services while maintaining a high-quality of life for residents. “It’s been more than a decade since the County conducted a thorough strategic planning process,” said DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom. “Our County is facing the need to address core, strategic questions about its long-term direction and this plan will help in that journey.” The strategic plan was prepared to assist the DuPage County Board in achieving four essential elements of effective governance: (1) sustaining the vision of an organization; (2) articulating its mission; (3) making policy; and (4) setting priorities. “This plan responds to the dramatic changes and challenges facing our county,” said Debra Olson, Chairwoman of the County’s Strategic Planning Committee. “I want to commend Darlene Ruscitti and the members of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee for all of their hard work in presenting us with this important document.” According to the plan, there are three important factors driving the need for a fresh look at all aspects of County government. These factors are: the changes in the demographics of the county’s population; changes in the growth patterns within the county; and the changes in county government finances. The draft Strategic Plan was developed after an intensive process of consulting with a wide variety of leaders both inside and outside of county government through both private interviews and focus groups. The Steering Committee also heard from over 1400 residents through public meetings and surveys. To view the strategic plan please visit: www.dupageco.org.
