DUPAGE RX HELPING RESIDENTS SAVE ON THE HIGH COST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

WHEATON— Eight months ago, DuPage County launched a new and innovative program that helps residents save money on the high cost of prescription drugs.  DuPage Rx, which does not cost the County any money, is having an immediate impact Tom Bennington (District 3) announced during Tuesday evening’s County Board meeting.

Since its launch last September, DuPage Rx has helped over 4,000 DuPage residents save over $83,000 on their prescription medicines.  Cardholders have filled over 8700 prescriptions with an average savings of 17 percent.

“These are significant savings, which are helping residents keep more of their hard earned money,” said Bennington.  “DuPage Rx helps consumers save money on their prescription medications any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.  The free cards have been distributed by the County and may be used at any participating retail pharmacy.”

DuPage Rx cards may be used by all County residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage.  There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use.  It is important to note, however, that the DuPage Rx discount card is not insurance.

In the coming weeks, NACO will be sending the County updated materials, complete with a new design.  Once these new materials arrive, they will be distributed to community centers, libraries and other organizations throughout the County.

Bennington notes that as a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo), DuPage County came across this unique and innovative program during a meeting last year in Washington DC called the “NACo Prescription Drug Discount Card Program.”
