Register NOW to Volunteer for
DuPage Remembers and Gives…A Day of Volunteerism

More than 50 hands-on projects and collection drives are currently available at www.givingdupage.org for this year’s countywide volunteer event, DuPage Remembers and Gives…A Day of Volunteerism, to be held on Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8.  This annual event commemorates September 11 by bringing the community together to assist non-profit organizations throughout DuPage County in service.

Businesses, church groups, youth groups, scout troops and individuals who want to meet like-minded people are encouraged to sign up for one of the many projects that cover a wide variety of causes.  Some examples of hands-on projects include:

  • Organizing a Garden Party Car Wash at Canticle Place
  • Hosting an Ice Cream Reception for Little Friends
  • Cooking and serving a meal for guests of DuPage PADS
  • Participating in Fall Clean-Up projects at NAMI DuPage, CoACH Care Center, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage, Springbrook Nature Center, St. Patrick’s Residence, Downers Grove FISH or the DuPage Children’s Museum

A sampling of collection drives, include:

  • Assembling welcome kits for new refugee families served by Exodus World Service, or Love Christian Clearing House
  • Creating baskets of personal care items for local homeless or low income individuals served by Catholic Charities, Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry, Wayside Cross Ministries, and DuPage PADS
  • Collecting pet necessities like beds, leashes and collars for DuPage Animal Care and Control

“Last year, over 2,800 volunteers donated 5,500 hours of time through DuPage Remembers and Gives…A Day of Volunteerism.  That translates to over $100,000 of support, which is especially significant given the increasing pressure felt by non-profit organizations serving the needs of our community”, said Giving DuPage manager, Kathy Blair.

Giving DuPage organizes several activities throughout the year to get people involved in their local communities.  Their interactive website includes a volunteer match to connect volunteers with local agencies throughout the year.  Giving DuPage also publishes an annual Holiday Giving Guide listing volunteer and in-kind donation needs at area non-profits during the holiday season.

Giving DuPage is a public-private initiative promoting giving and volunteerism in DuPage County.  This is Giving DuPage’s sixth annual  DuPage Remembers and Gives…A Day of Volunteerism. To view projects and register to volunteer, visit www.givingdupage.org now or contact Giving DuPage at 630.407.6458.  The deadline to register is August 15.
