DOWNERS GROVE RESIDENT APPOINTED TO COUNTY ETHICS COMMISSION

WHEATON DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom appointed, and the County Board approved, Mary Robinson of Downers Grove to serve as Commissioner and Chairman of the DuPage County Ethics Commission.

As a member of the Ethics Commission, Ms. Robinson will serve as an advisor on ethics issues for County elected officials, board members, appointees and employees.  She will also be a resource to assist county officials and employees in interpreting the County’s Ethics Ordinance in order to ensure uniform compliance.

“Mary Robinson exemplifies the highest ethical standards.  Her experience will serve the County Board and the residents of DuPage County well,” said Schillerstrom.  “Our goal since implementing our new Ethics Ordinance is to have, and to adhere to, the highest ethical standards, and to also instill confidence in our citizens.”

In September 2004, the County Board approved a new Ethics Ordinance that went beyond the minimum requirements of the Illinois Officials and Employees Ethics Act.  DuPage County implemented their ordinance to ensure that all elected and appointed officials, as well as County employees, always act in the best interests of the County.  The Board believed that the establishment of strict ethical guidelines would foster a high level of confidence in the public.

The County’s ordinance called for the appointment of five commissioners, with no more than three coming from any one political party.

Ms. Robinson, who received her Juris Doctor at the University of Southern California, is self employed and a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Professionalism.  Her term will run until December 14, 2008.
