BENNINGTON APPOINTED TO NACo STEERING COMMITTEE

WHEATON (November 15, 2007) ― The National Association of Counties (NACo) has appointed DuPage County Board Member Thomas Bennington (District 3) as a member of their Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee.

Bennington, whose participation with NACo helped the County launch its highly successful DuPage Rx program, said he was thrilled with the appointment.

“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to serve on this committee and to work with my peers across the nation,” said Bennington.  “NACo is an outstanding organization that benefits each and every county.”

Bennington was informed of his appointment by Eric Coleman, President of NACo.

“Committee leadership at the national level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility,” said Coleman in a letter.  “A great deal of NACo’s strength is in its committees, and that strength is reflected in the commitment and active participation revealed throughout our committee structure.”

The Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee examines all matters pertaining to air, water, and noise pollution control; solid and hazardous waste management and disposal; the preservation and proper utilization of water resources; energy; and the use of land resources, including comprehensive planning, coastal zone management, growth management, energy facilities sitting, and recreation.

Steering committees annually review and make recommendations on issues and legislation. The policy development process initiated by the steering committees leads to the publication of the American County Platform, which NACo uses as a guide to deliver the county government message to the Administration, Congress and the American public.
