December 11, 2007 GILGIS: DuPage Historic Museum Still Open WHEATON ― DuPage County Board members Kyle Gilgis (District 3) and Debra Olson (District 4) want to remind residents that the DuPage Historic Museum is still open to the public this holiday season and there are many activities taking place for the whole family. “There has been a lot of confusion regarding the status of the DuPage Historic Museum given the budget we currently passed,” said Gilgis. “Residents should know that the Museum is currently open, operating and offering many exhibits that are fun for the whole family.” The Historic Museum will be hosting TrainFest on Saturday December 15th and 29th, as well as on Saturday January 19th. The festival runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the trains run between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The HO-gauge train layout housed at the Museum is one of the largest displays in the country. It covers more than 2,000 feet and shows the Chicago and Northwestern, Burlington Northern, Chicago, Aurora and Elgin and Illinois Central railroads. “The DuPage Historic Museum is a great place to take the family during the coming holiday break,” said Olson. “I would encourage everyone to find the time to visit this wonderful facility while the opportunity exists.” The Historical Museum is also hosting an Arts & Craft Fair for people who still need to find the perfect gift. The Arts & Craft Fair will feature artists and artisans who have received recognition for their craftsmanship; the participants are from DuPage County and will offer unique, handmade items. The artists will be offering handmade beeswax candles, handmade soaps, jewelry, decorative tableware and much, much more. Featured artists will include Jyoti Candles, Laurie Pontarelli and the DuPage County Historical Museum Guild. On Saturday, Faces for Radio Acappella a musical talent from Chicago, will be performing. The Arts & Craft fair will be held on Friday, December 21st from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm; and on Saturday, December 22nd from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
