ZAY RECEIVES 2008 BISHOP SHEIL AWARD WHEATON, IL – DuPage County Board Member Jim Zay (District 6) received the Police Athletic League of Illinois’ 2008 Bishop Sheil Award on Wednesday, which was presented to him at their first annual awards luncheon in Oak Brook Zay was honored for his commitment to educating local youths about the dangers of gangs, drugs, alcohol and other detriments that could have a negative impact on a person’s life. “Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” said Zay. “Being a teenager is not easy, and having the tools necessary when forced with a difficult decision is vital to a youth’s upbringing. I applaud the Police Athletic League and the work they do in making a difference in our community, and I’m honored to receive this award.” The Police Action League is a non-profit youth organization with a mission to reduce juvenile delinquency and promote positive interaction between law enforcement and communities. In essence it is a recreation oriented juvenile crime prevention program that relies heavily on athletics and recreational activities to tighten the bond between police officers and kids in the community.
