CONTRACTORS WILL NOW HAVE TO REGISTER WITH COUNTY’S DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

WHEATON — Contractors performing work within unincorporated DuPage County will now be required to register, bond and insure themselves with the County’s Department of Economic Development and Planning under a new ordinance recently approved by the DuPage County Board.

“The goal of this new ordinance is to provide a greater level of customer service regarding residents’ involvement with contractors doing shoddy workmanship, falsifying permit information and creating serious life-safety issues,” said Kyle Gilgis, Chairwoman of the County’s Development Committee.  “Now, with this new enforcement tool, we can monitor these types of activities and ultimately deal with forfeiture of their required surety bonds if necessary.”

Also, notes Gilgis, DuPage County will now be able to provide residents with an accurate list of registered, licensed and bonded contractors performing work in the unincorporated area.

This new requirement becomes effective March 1, 2008 and will be administered through the Department of Economic Development and Planning.
