County Board Approves Property Tax Abatement

WHEATON, IL ―    The DuPage County Board voted on Saturday to abate the property tax levy by $1 million dollars, which will provide property tax relief to DuPage County homeowners.

The action was taken during a special call County Board meeting held over the weekend in order to meet the March 31 deadline required to take such action.

“Providing the residents of DuPage County with property tax relief is simply the right thing to do,” said DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom.   “DuPage County has always felt that it was important to give money back to taxpayers who are already overtaxed.  Today’s action continues that philosophy.”

Voting in favor of the abatement were Board Members:  Yolanda Campuzano, Grant Eckhoff, Paul Fichtner, Kyle Gilgis, Linda Kurzawa, JR McBride, Patrick O’Shea, Don Puchalski, Jeff Redick, Brien Sheahan and Jim Zay.

The Board is expected to take up the revised Fiscal Year 2008 Budget at the next regularly scheduled County Board meeting on Tuesday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m.
