Fichtner Calls on City to Delay Demolition of Bensenville Homes
WHEATON― DuPage County Board Member Paul Fichtner (District 1) today called on the City of Chicago to delay tearing down over 600 homes and commercial properties in Bensenville that are now owned by the City of Chicago and are in danger of being demolished as part of the O’Hare Modernization Project (OMP).
“600 parcels of property are nearly 15 percent of the total parcels the village has. Chicago should wait until the OMP is ready to begin its next phase, rather than just tearing down the homes and businesses and having that area stay vacant. We do not know when any future construction is going to take place or how Chicago is going to get the billions of dollars needed to design and build the second phase of the OMP.” said Fichtner
“I also want to ensure there are no adverse environmental issues that could arise from tearing down these homes. So, for the sake of the community and common sense, I would ask the City of Chicago to hold off on tearing down these Bensenville homes and businesses.” said Fichtner.
