DU PAGE COUNTY WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM

The DuPage County Water Quality Improvement Grant Program provides funding assistance to individuals, homeowners groups, and public or private agencies that have an initiative to improve or promote water quality, water resource conservation and restore the natural habitat and hydrology in DuPage County. 

Construction projects funded in the past have included green roofs, green building design and technology, best management practices such as bioswales, rain gardens and permeable paving, streambank stabilization, in-stream habitat improvements such as the use of pool riffles, a-jacks and coconut fiber rolls, detention pond retrofitting, channel and stream meandering rehabilitation, creek restoration and native plantings, riparian buffer restoration and constructed wetlands. 

“Eligible water quality projects may receive up to 20 percent funding for total costs of the project design, construction, maintenance, and monitoring of the site to ensure project success,” notes Stormwater Committee Chairman Jim Zay (District 6). 

Actual funds to be awarded will be determined based on the approved 2009 DuPage County Budget.  In the past, $300,000 annually has been allocated for the water quality improvement grant program.  Applicants are encouraged to submit a Design Solution Report to the County by December 1, 2008 to apply for this grant funding.
