FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COUNTY TO RELOCATE MEMORIAL CROSSES TO MORE ACCESSIBLE, AND SAFER, AREA ON CAMPUS
DU PAGE COUNTY, IL ― DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom announced on Tuesday that the county will be relocating the memorial crosses, which honor those DuPage residents who have fallen in the war on terror, to a more visitor-friendly location on the campus. Schillerstrom notes that the primary reason for the move is safety and better accessibility, and that the county regrets any confusion that may have resulted among the families during this process. “ The former location, especially when there was snow and ice on the ground, posed a safety hazard for visitors given the slope of the terrain. The new location will be in a more accessible area, which will ensure those visiting can do so in a safe manner. “These brave men we honor are true American heros, and we will continue to recognize the ultimate sacrfice they have made in defending our freedom,” said Schillerstrom. While the crosses serve as a temporary memorial, those who have fallen have had, and will have, their names permantly engraved onto the granite tablet of the county’s Veteran’s Memorial. Schillerstrom notes that the crosses will be up within the next ten days.
