DU PAGE COUNTY TO HOST HOME BUYERS FAIR

WHEATON, IL —    Consumers can get the latest information on the new $8,000 tax credit and a host of other programs at the 17th Annual Free Home Buyers Fair, Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 10 am until 3 pm at the DuPage County Administration Building, 421 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton.   The fair will be hosted by the DuPage Homeownership Center, a nonprofit, HUD-certified housing counseling agency, and the DuPage County Department of Community Services.

“With all that is going on in our real estate market today, people need unbiased, accurate information,” said DuPage County Board Member Debra Olson (District 4).  “This free fair offers one-stop-shopping for consumers to learn about programs and services that can help them become successful homeowners and avoid the mistakes that pushed many current homeowners into crisis.”

Workshops will be held on topics such as mortgages, shopping for a home, understanding your credit report, short sales and foreclosed properties.  At 10 am, DuPage Habitat for Humanity will host an application session for buyers interested in their programs.  In addition, over 30 area lenders, real estate agents, attorneys, community groups, FHA and the Illinois Housing Development Authority will have exhibits about their services.  Admission is free to all activities.

“I encourage people who are thinking about buying a home to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to get free, expert guidance to help them make sound choices,” Olson added.

For additional information about the fair or any of the DuPage Homeownership Center’s services, call (630) 260-2500 or visit their website at www.dhoc.org
