DUPAGE CELEBRATING MONEY SMART WEEK APRIL 18-25

DU PAGE COUNTY     The DuPage County Board is encouraging residents to celebrate Money Smart Week, which will take place April 18-25, 2009 and will be held all around Illinois.  The DuPage Community Foundation suggested Money Smart Week when the need for financial education among all age groups became apparent.

Throughout the week, more than 40 seminars, classes and activities will be open to the public, free of charge.  Held in dozens of locations throughout the county, these programs will focus on a wide variety of financial topics.

“Money Smart Week is an opportunity for us all to learn better money management practices,” said Paul Fichtner (District 1), Chairman of the Finance Committee.  “This event will address the financial challenges we all face.”

County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom agrees with the need for an increase in financial literacy.  “In these economic times, it’s important to recognize that financial education is vital.  The more we understand about our economy, the better chance we have of repairing it.  These programs will be available to everyone, and I hope the people of DuPage take advantage of them.”

The official Money Smart Week DuPage kick-off event will take place at Benedictine University on Monday, April 20 at 2 p.m.  Additionally, the College of DuPage will host Your Money Bus, which is staffed by professional financial advisors from the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.  Consultations on personal finance issues will be available on Thursday, April 23.
