DUPAGE COUNTY STORMWATER MANAGEMENT TO HOST GREENER LANDSCAPES DAY
DU PAGE COUNTY - DuPage County’s Stormwater Management Division will host Greener Landscapes Day on Saturday, May 30, 2009 in the West Parking lot of the DuPage County Fair Grounds from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or until products sell out). This first ever event will provide DuPage County residents with the opportunity to purchase or order rain barrels and native plants, while learning more information about making their homes truly ‘green’ this summer. The rain barrels and native plants will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Rain barrels, which store stormwater runoff from rain events for future use in gardens and lawns, will be available for purchase in blue, black, slate and terra cotta from The Conservation Foundation. Applied Ecological Services, Inc., Jack Pizzo and Associates, Ltd. and Possibility Place Nursery will offer native plants for sale and be available for consultations. Native plants are hardy species with deep roots that have adapted to the DuPage County soil and climate without the need of fertilizers, pesticides or excessive watering. They also attract many butterflies and birds to your gardens. For more information about Greener Landscapes Day, stormwater management or best management practices including rain barrels and native plants, please call 630-407-6706 or visit http://www.dupageco.org/dec/.
