The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is at
the forefront of crime scene investigation
using the latest techniques and state of the
art scientific methods to conduct a thorough
investigation of every crime scene they
process.
The Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU)
processes crime scenes primarily for the
Sheriff's Office, however, it is available to
every agency within DuPage County either to
process entire scenes, to provide guidance and
direction, or for specialty processing of
specific items of evidence.
Besides processing scenes for physical
evidence the FIU also conducts forensic
computer examinations and forensic video
analysis on evidence recovered from closed
circuit surveillance cameras.
Forensic Investigators also serve as a
support unit to the DuPage County Coroner's
Office serving as primary evidence technicians
for the documentation, collection, and
preservation of physical evidence related to
all unnatural deaths occurring in the county.
In addition, the unit provides forensic
services to three task forces in the county,
the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, the
Felony Investigative Assistance Team and the
Fire Investigation Task Force. Eight unit
members serve on the Major Crimes Task Force,
one as a forensic commander, another as a team
leader, and six as team members.
