Inmates
sentenced to the Periodic Imprisonment Program
reside at the
DuPage
County
Jail, but are allowed to hold outside employment or
attend outside counseling during their sentence.
Inmates must
provide a verifiable work schedule and paycheck
stubs as proof of hours worked. A new initiative,
started by Sheriff Zaruba, requires sheriff's
deputies to make random checks of sites to
ensure inmates are in fact where they are supposed
to be.
During an
inmates first thirty days in custody, the maximum
hours allowed out of custody is 65 per week. After
thirty days in the program, the inmate may request
permission to remain out of custody for work and
counseling for up to 80 hours each week.
Inmates pay
a board fee of $15.00 per day and are required to
remain in custody one full day each week. Each
inmate also pays for his or her own health care.
