Created by state law to provide statistical assessment performance data to the Illinois Department of Revenue, the Supervisor of Assessments Office also gives technical advice and provides statistical analysis of assessment data to the Township Assessors and the DuPage County Board of Review. These statistics are the result of analyzing the data we gather from processing approximately 16,000 Real Estate Transfer Declarations on an annual basis. The Supervisor of Assessments Office also maintains records of total exempt properties and administers special assessment types such as the Senior Homestead Exemption, the Senior Assessment Freeze, the Veterans Exemption, the Veterans/Fraternal Organization Assessment Freeze, the Open Space Preferential Assessment Type, and the Model Home Exemption. For the 2007 tax year, our office will grant over 42,600 Senior Homestead Exemptions and 12,000 Senior Assessment Freeze Exemptions on behalf of DuPage County taxpayers. Many of the necessary application forms for these exemptions and preferential assessment types are now available for downloading on our ‘Forms and Documents’ webpage. The local Township Assessor administers the Residential Exemption.
In addition, the Supervisor of Assessments acts as an equalization authority, a statutory clerk of the Board of Review, and correlates the work of the nine township assessors. The Supervisor of Assessments is responsible for publishing assessment change notices and mailing notices to taxpayers.
In DuPage County, the nine Township Assessors are responsible for the initial assessed valuation calculation. All of the Township Assessors in DuPage County provide on-line data bases of property information on their respective web sites.
For the 2007 Assessment year, DuPage County was comprised of approximately 333,000 parcels of real estate with an net equalized assessed value of over $40,413,000,000.
