| General Description
The DuPage County Juvenile Justice Council was established in 1999 to provide a forum for the development of a community-based interagency assessment of the local juvenile justice system and to develop a comprehensive and coordinated juvenile justice plan for DuPage County. Recognizing that juvenile justice issues can arise well before court proceedings are instituted, the Council continues to develop and implement preventative and early intervention programs. Initiatives that the Council has sponsored involve issues such as truancy, alternatives to detention, transitional living, pre-trial services, and mediation. In addition, the Council established a county-wide Juvenile Database System so that all information on juveniles could be easily shared between police departments.
