Naperville Man Charged with Class X Felony for Physically Abusing his 4 Month Old Baby
DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett and Naperville Police Chief David Dial announced that Jesse L. Reeder, 22 (d.o.b. 11/09/81) of 1579 Fairway Drive in Naperville has been charged in connection with serious injuries sustained by his four month old baby. Reeder was charged with four (4) counts of Aggravated Battery to a Child, all Class X felonies, for his actions that resulted in injuries to his daughter, including head trauma and multiple bone fractures.
On Thursday, March 18, the baby’s doctor made a report to the Naperville Police Department about serious injuries he noted during a check-up. The child was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville and later transported to Children’s Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
After the Naperville Police investigated the report, along with the assistance of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the defendant was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Child, a Class X felony. The defendant was taken into custody by the Naperville Police and later transported to the DuPage County Jail in Wheaton.
“I would like to commend the health care providers involved with this incident for following the procedures required by the Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse law,” commented State’s Attorney Birkett. “By immediately making this call, this child may have been saved from further abuse and the situation was brought to the attention of law enforcement. Law enforcement was thus able to investigate and charge the person believed to be responsible for this horrible abuse.”
The defendant appeared in bond court this morning where Judge Cary Pierce set his bond at $300,000 – 10% to apply. He is next scheduled to appear in court on April 5th at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 4010 before Judge Michael Burke for arraignment.
Members of the public are reminded that a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
