Charges Filed in Willowbrook Triple Homicide
DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett and Willowbrook Police Chief Edward Konstanty announced today that Hector Leon Moya (aka Ivan P. Garcia, and Hector Leon) 29 (d.o.b. 12/02/74) has been charged with three (3) counts of First Degree Murder in connection with the Tuesday, September 14th triple homicide that occurred in Willowbrook. He was transported to the DuPage County Jail in Wheaton this afternoon and appeared in bond court late this afternoon where he was ordered to be held without bail.
On Tuesday evening at approximately 9:20 p.m., a Willowbrook Police Patrol Officer allegedly observed a male subject firing several shots into the passenger compartment of a dark colored Nissan extended cab pick-up truck. The truck was parked on the far north end of the Denny’s parking lot which is located at the intersection of Midway Drive and Route 83. The truck was then observed moving in a northerly direction, over a curb, across Midway Drive towards a gas station. The truck came to an abrupt stop after hitting the side of a Target store. While the truck was moving, the Willowbrook Police Officer allegedly observed the suspect running from the scene with a handgun in his hand and was apprehended almost immediately thereafter.
When the Nissan pick-up truck was approached, two (2) male gunshot victims were located inside. A third gunshot victim was found by the side of the road along Midway Drive. One (1) victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the DuPage County Coroner’s Officer. The other two (2) victims were taken to Hinsdale Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
The three (3) victims were identified yesterday afternoon through the efforts of the DuPage County Coroner’s Office and the Willowbrook Police Department as Federico Moreno Torres, 36 (d.o.b. 7/24/68) of Mexico; Guillermo Armendariz, 36 (d.o.b. 5/25/68) of Grand Prairie, Texas and Hilario Ochoa, 25 (d.o.b. 1/14/79), of Irving, Texas.
The defendant has been tentatively identified as Hector Leon Moya of Guadalajara, Mexico. He is next scheduled to appear on October 18th at 9 a.m. in courtroom 4012 before Judge Robert Anderson for arraignment.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
