Carol Stream Doctor Pleads Guilty to Battery of a Patient
DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced that Angelo Consiglio, 46 (d.o.b. 10/30/58) of 30 W 612 Bradford Parkway in Wayne, a licensed physician with offices in Carol Stream, was convicted today of misdemeanor battery to a patient during the course of treatment. Dr. Consiglio, whose business address is 503 Thornhill Drive in Carol Stream, was sentenced by Judge Cary B. Pierce to one (1) year of probation, a $100 fine, $1,000 in restitution to the victim, and any counseling deemed appropriate. In addition, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
The facts of this case established that on January 5, 2004, Dr. Consiglio inappropriately touched the female victim’s breast during the course of an examination and also made unseemly comments to her. The victim reported the incident to the Carol Stream Police Department who then contacted the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office for assistance in the investigation of these allegations. The case matter was ultimately concluded by today’s conviction and sentencing before Judge Pierce.
This afternoon, State’s Attorney Birkett contacted Secretary Fernando E. Grillo of the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation to notify him of the conviction and request that the Department seek the immediate suspension of Consiglio’s medical license, pursuant to the provisions of 225 ILCS 60/22 in the Illinois Code.
“This was an outrageous act and clearly immoral and illegal conduct by a licensed medical professional,” State’s Attorney Birkett declared. “There is no excuse for his conduct.”
State’s Attorney Birkett thanked the Carol Stream Police Department under the direction of Chief Rick Willing for their professionalism in this very sensitive investigation.
