BIRKETT RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
AWARD FROM JOHN MARSHALL LAW SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

WHEATON DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett was honored today by the John Marshall Law School Alumni Association as they presented him with their 2006 Distinguished Service Award.  The award was presented to Birkett at their annual awards luncheon held at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago

Each year the John Marshall Law School Alumni Association honors alumni based on the following criteria;

  • Accomplished significant achievements in their chosen career
  • Honored the Law School through their efforts
  • Contributed their time and talents to the law school and/or the community at large
  • Exhibited excellence in their volunteer work
  • Exhibited a sincere personal commitment to The John Marshall Law School, its students, alumni, faculty and /or staff
  • Reflected the John Marshall values that are a part of the Law School’s heritage and mission, including service and dedication to all people

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Alumni Association at my Alma Mater, the John Marshall Law School,” Birkett remarked.  “I could not have received this award without the help, hard work and determination of all of the men and women in my office.  I am extremely proud to work along side each and every one of them and I share this award with them.  I would also like to thank my family and my wife Patti for their support as well as crime victims and their families who have turned their own personal tragedies and despair into hope for others by becoming part of the victims’ rights movement.”

Birkett is a twenty-five year veteran prosecutor at the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.  He has served as the Criminal Bureau Chief of the office and was appointed State’s Attorney in October 1996 to fill the vacancy of Jim Ryan and Anthony Peccarelli.  In November of 1996, he was elected as DuPage County’s State’s Attorney and was re-elected to the four-year position in 2000 and again in 2004.
