States Attorney WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Judge Robert Anderson sentenced Shawn Myers, 34 (d.o.b. 7/22/72) of Plymouth Indiana, to 8 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after Myers entered a plea of guilty to operating a methamphetamine lab. Myers was also ordered to pay $5,829 in restitution. Shawn Myers pled guilty to the charge of Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Chemical with the Intent to Manufacture Methamphetamine, a Class X felony. The charges stem from an investigation by the Burr Ridge Police Department that revealed that Myers and his girlfriend, Kimberly Fields, were operating a Methamphetamine lab in a shed in Fields’ back yard. On Thursday, May 11, Fields pled guilty to similar charges and was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Fields also agreed to testify against Myers in his upcoming trial. “I am very pleased with the sentence handed down by Judge Anderson today,” commented Birkett. “As I have unfortunately seen hundreds of times over the years, drugs took control of an individual’s life. Mr. Myers, in an attempt to feed his own drug habit, was not only hurting himself, he was poisoning the lives of others as well and threatening the safety of an entire community. People who get involved in drugs can loose everything that is important to them in their lives. They can loose their family and friends, their jobs and their homes and they can also loose their freedom for a very long time, as we saw happen in this case.” States Attorney Birkett also praised the work of the Burr Ridge Police Department led by Chief Herbert Timm, the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group and other law enforcement agencies that assisted in this case. ###
