WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that his office has been recognized by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve as a Patriotic Employer for the Office’s support of employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Forces.

            The award was presented to Birkett by Assistant State’s Attorney Captain Philip Hiscock at an informal ceremony held in Birkett’s office.  Hiscock is one of six State’s Attorney employees who have been called into service over the past years.  Other State’s Attorney employees who have been called to service include:

• Former Assistant State’s Attorney Captain Blake Stone who did not return to the office opting for a career in the military
• Assistant State’s Attorney Colonel Robert Douglas
• Assistant State’s Attorney Captain Michael O’Donnell
• Investigator Captain Christopher Mulligan
• Former Records Clerk Enlisted Dekole Branch

            Birkett, who sits on the Board of Directors of the Western Suburban Disabled Veterans Foundation, graciously accepted the award though he was quick to point out that the servicemen and women are those who deserve the praise.

            “I am extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of the State’s Attorney’s Office,” commented Birkett.  “The men and women of my office who serve our county however, are the ones who deserve our respect and recognition.  They put their careers and their families on hold and risk their lives to serve and protect all of us.  For this we are all truly grateful.”
