ADDISON MAN CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE AND HOME INVASION

WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today criminal charges were filed against Luis Jaramillo, 38, (d.o.b. 9/23/67) of 533 Green Oaks Court South, Addison, including one count of Home Invasion, a Class X Felony, one count of Unlawful Restraint, a Class 4 Felony and one count of Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 4 Felony.

The charges stem from allegations that on June 21st, 2006 at approximately 6:37 a.m., Jaramillo attempted to enter an apartment other than his own on Green Oaks Court South.  Upon hearing noises at the front door, the victim immediately placed a 9-1-1 call.  While the victim was still on the phone with 9-1-1, Jaramillo allegedly kicked open the door to the apartment at which time the victim ran into the bedroom.  Jaramillo allegedly followed the victim into the bedroom, knocked the victim to the floor and attempted to rape her.  It was at this time that the Addison Police Department arrived at the apartment and apprehended Jaramillo.

“I would like to commend the Addison Police Department, particularly Officer John Zorbas, for their extremely quick response to that 9-1-1 call placed yesterday morning,” remarked Birkett.  “Because of their swift action they were able to apprehend Mr. Jaramillo in the commission of a crime and more importantly, they were able to prevent Mr. Jaramillo from committing another horrible crime against his innocent victim.”

Jaramillo was in Bond Court this morning where Judge Joseph Bongiorno set his bond at $1 million with 10% to apply.  His next scheduled court date is July 17 in front of Judge Robert Anderson.

If found guilty of all charges, Jaramillo could face up to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.  In addition, the State’s Attorney’s Office has contacted immigration officials regarding Jaramillo who is in the United States illegally.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
