MINOR SENTENCED IN HATE CRIME CASE

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that a fifteen year old minor was sentenced in juvenile court for his participation in a hate crime at Hinsdale Central High School in February, 2006.

Judge Patrick Leston sentenced the minor to one year of probation and twenty hours community service. The minor pleaded guilty to spray painting swastikas and an anti-Semitic slur on the wall of the Hinsdale Central football field.

“My office has a zero tolerance policy for hate crimes,” said State’s Attorney Birkett. “Hopefully, this minor has learned a valuable lesson and will take advantage of the services offered in Juvenile Court and move on to become a productive member of society,” Birkett stated.

The minor will remain under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court for one year. Two other minors charged in the incident are awaiting trial on August 28, 2006.
