WEST CHICAGO MAN SENTENCED IN STRING OF ARSONS

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that a West Chicago man entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill for his role in a string of arsons in Bartlett and Carol Stream beginning in March 2003 through January 2005.

Judge George Bakalis sentenced Mark Giomi, 25 (d.o.b. 12/29/81), of 4N. 641 Turnmill Lane, to 180 days in the DuPage County Jail and 48 months probation.  In addition Giomi was also ordered to pay $33,641 in restitution and to undergo psychological counseling.  Giomi’s victims included four churches, three in Bartlett and one in Carol Stream and a private residence in Carol Stream

State’s Attorney Birkett commented on the cooperation between all the parties involved in this case.  “I would like to thank and commend the FBI, the Bartlett and Carol Stream Police Departments, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, the Fire Investigation Task Force and Assistant State’s Attorneys Kevin Halverson and Michael Pawl for their dedication and teamwork in solving this case,” commented Birkett.  “This case is a good example of law enforcement agencies working together.”
