Warrenville Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Home Invasion

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that Kenneth Stroup, 21 (d.o.b. 12/01/84), with a last known address of 2 S. 811 Grove Lane, Warrenville, has been sentenced to 25 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the April 13, 2003 late-night armed invasion of a Warrenville home.

On May 5, 2006, DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Michael Burke found Stroup guilty of Home Invasion and Armed Robbery, both Class X Felonies. The charges stem from an incident in which the defendant, accompanied by two other adult males, forced their way into the Warrenville home and terrorized the family.  While Stroup and one of the offenders bound and held the mother and father, one of Stroup’s co-defendants, Damon V. Jones, forced their teenage daughter into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her.   The trio then took numerous items of property from the home.  The father was able to escape from the bindings shortly after the offenders fled and called the police.  On February 27, 2006, Judge Burke sentenced Jones to 60 years in the IDOC for his role in the incident.  Stroup’s other co-defendant, Craig Buzzell, was sentenced by Judge Burke on June 23, 2005 to 35 years in the IDOC.

“These three men preyed on and victimized an entire family,” remarked Birkett.  “The nightmare for this good family is finally over.  Thanks to the excellent work of the Warrenville Police Department, the Major Crimes Task Force and Assistant State’s Attorneys Joe Ruggiero and Helen Kapas-Erdman, Kenneth Stoup will now contemplate his future in a cell, away from society, along with his co-defendants.  This is a just result.”
