SEAN McNEES SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS  FOR PROBATION VIOLATION

WHEATONDuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett today announced that Sean McNees, 21 (d.o.b. 2/7/1985) was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after violating his term of probation by committing the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol while his license was revoked.

The charges stem from an incident in May 2005, during which a DuPage County Sheriff’s Deputy observed McNees driving erratically and committing numerous lane violations in the area of Benedictine University.  McNees pulled his vehicle into the college entrance and while the deputy was conducting a driver’s license check on McNees, he attempted to flee the scene on foot.  McNees was quickly apprehended and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Additional charges were later filed.  At the time of this offense, McNees was still on probation for the December 21, 2001 Reckless Homicide for a drunk driving crash in Naperville, which caused the death of 16 year old Stacey Blundell.

“After taking the life a young girl in a 2001 drunk driving crash, Sean McNees was given a rare opportunity to turn his life around without spending a significant amount of time behind bars,” commented Birkett.  “In stead of taking advantage of that opportunity however, Mr. McNees continued to drink and drive.  Luckily, no one was injured in 2005 when he once again was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Today however, Mr. McNees’ luck ran out.  His reckless behavior has finally caught up with him and he will now spend the next several years behind bars unable to threaten society with drunk driving again.  Hopefully, this sentence will deter others.”
