CHARGES FILED IN WEST CHICAGO HOME INVASION WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Home Invasion charges have been filed against Alejandro De La Salle, 29 (d.o.b. 7/26/1977), of West Chicago, for an early morning home invasion at a West Chicago residence. At approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, De La Salle, allegedly armed with a pair of scissors, a two-foot long cord and a roll of tape, allegedly entered a West Chicago residence he believed to be occupied by a former estranged girlfriend. Once inside the home, it is alleged that De La Salle entered the bedroom of an eleven year-old girl he believed was his former girlfriend and attempted to tape her mouth shut. When the girl screamed, De La Salle allegedly realized that he was not in his former girlfriend’s house and fled the scene. Responding to a home invasion call at the residence, West Chicago Police requested assistance from Warrenville Police K-9 Unit who responded quickly to the scene of the crime and within minutes had De La Salle in custody without incident. “I can only imagine the terror that this little girl must have felt as she was awoken in the middle of the night by an armed intruder intending to harm her,” commented Birkett. “She was able to scare off her attacker however, and thanks to the swift action of the West Chicago and Warrenville Police Departments, Mr. De La Salle is off the streets and currently being held on $1 million bond.” De La Salle is scheduled to be arraigned on November 6 at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Michael Burke. Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ###
