CHARGES FILED IN ADDISON ARMED ROBBERY WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Armed Robbery charges have been filed against Cornelius Brown, 31 (d.o.b. 12/18/1974), of Addison, for an early morning attack against a twenty-five year-old Addison woman. At approximately 12:45 a.m. Sunday, October 8, Brown, allegedly armed with a knife, approached his victim in the parking lot of the victim’s apartment complex. He then allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, held the knife against her and demanded money. The victim allegedly told Brown she had no money but offered him her ATM card and PIN number along with her cell phone if he would leave her alone. Brown allegedly took the ATM card and cell phone and left his victim in the parking lot. Once freed from her attacker, the victim ran to the apartment complex and called for help. Moments later Addison police arrived at the scene. Through their investigation, Addison Police were able to identify the victim’s attacker as Cornelius Brown. On Thursday, October 12, Addison Police arrested Brown at his residence without incident. “I would like to commend the victim of this monstrous crime for her actions and quick thinking as she was held against her will at knifepoint,” commented Birkett. “Without her courage and willingness to come forward and assist us in this investigation, Mr. Brown would still be free to roam the streets looking for his next victim instead of where he is now – locked up in the DuPage County Jail on $1 million bond.” Brown is scheduled to be arraigned on November 6 at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Robert Anderson. In addition to the $1 million bond in DuPage County, Brown is being held on no bond through the Illinois Department of Corrections as he was on parole at the time of this offense. Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ###
